INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (ADAMS) – Indiana lawmakers are rejecting an amendment to the state budget, designed to stop discrimination in schools statewide. Representative Dan Forestal proposed the amendment, which he says was inspired by Roncalli High School counselor Shelly Fitzgerald.
The amendment would have blocked tax dollars from going to schools that discriminate against their students or staff, based on gender identity or sexual orientation. Forestal says schools that have issues with discrimination should not be rewarded with state funds.
