City offers free filtration plant tours as part of ‘Water Week’

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – City Utilities will conduct free guided tours of our Three Rivers Water Filtration Plant, this Saturday, March 30, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. – noon.

The event kicks off Fort Wayne’s activities marking Water Week, a national celebration that focuses on the value of water and water utilities, environmental protection, economic development and to job creation, and national clean water policy. Water Week is sponsored by the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA) and 10 other water resource organizations.

The City says that tours begin approximately every 30-minutes and give visitors an opportunity to see the plant in operation, to interact with staff members, and to enjoy the architecture of the Collegiate Gothic style building. Located at 415 Baltes Avenue, the plant opened in 1933 and after several expansions is now able to produce 72 million gallons of drinking water per day.

The tour involves walking on several surfaces, including gravel, and attendees should not wear open-toe shoes or flip-flops.
