ALLEN CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – Looking to keep Allen County’s bridges maintained in a safe and sound fashion, the Board of Commissioners says they want input from representatives of cities and towns.
One option that has been examined is adjusting the major bridge tax rate. State law allows revenue from the major bridge fund to be used for constructing, maintaining, or repairing bridges, approaches, or grade separations on all bridges.
Before taking any action, the Board of Commissioners must conduct a public hearing. Any change in the rate would have to be adopted locally and submitted to the state Department of Local Government Finance by May 1. It would not take effect until 2020.
