Commissioners to hold public hearing on major bridge funding

ALLEN CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – The Allen County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing on the re-establishment of a Cumulative Major Bridge Fund for the county on March 29 at 10:15 a.m. in Suite 035 of Citizens Square, 200 East Berry Street.

The hearing is a requirement of the state statute governing the major bridge fund reestablishment process (IC 8-16-3.1). The current tax rate levied on all taxable real and personal property is $.0129 per $100 of assessed valuation. If increased, the new rate would not exceed $.033. Any new tax rate would be levied beginning with taxes due and payable in the year 2020.
Those unable to attend the hearing who wish to comment can mail those comments to the Allen County Board of Commissioners, 200 East Berry Street, Suite 410, Fort Wayne, IN 46802. You can also email comments to commissioner@allencounty.us or call the Commissioners’ Office at (260) 449-7555.
No decision by the Board is expected immediately following the conclusion of the hearing.
Should commissioners vote to adopt the cumulative fund at a later date, a notice will be published within 30 days of the adoption.

Ten or more taxpayers may file a petition with the County Auditor not later than 30 days after publication of that notice objecting to the proposed fund. If the petition is certified, the Indiana Department of Local Government Finance will conduct its own public hearing on the proposed cumulative fund before issuing its approval, disapproval or modification.
