FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Indiana Department of Transportation says that contractors plan to resume work on the Cole-Parker Crossing, over S.R. 930/Coliseum Boulevard, in Fort Wayne, on or after Monday, May 6, weather permitting.

Work on the pedestrian bridge, which connects the campuses of Purdue University Fort Wayne and Ivy Tech Community College Northeast, had been delayed due to additional testing and evaluation needed to ensure the new bridge meets the highest established design and construction standards.

Contractors will construct an additional bridge pier to ensure the long-term stability of the bridge. This will ensure the bridge can continue to carry its load in the event of extreme circumstances such as high winds, overloads, bridge strikes or other external forces.

This local public agency (LPA) project is a collaboration between Purdue Fort Wayne and Ivy Tech, using federal funds allocated by INDOT. The structure was designed by Engineering Resources, Inc. and constructed by Primco.

The revised construction costs are $3.9 million and the bridge is tentatively expected to open to pedestrian traffic before the 2019 fall semester.
