Fort Wayne man convicted in triple murder gets 200 years

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) -A Fort Wayne man was sentenced Friday after being convicted in the January 2018 murders of two women and an unborn child.

A jury found Deyante Stephens guilty in February of shooting and killing Preonda Jones, Brianna Gould, and her unborn son last year. An Allen County judge determined Friday that Stephens would receive a 200-year sentence.

Police were called to the 1200 block of Lillie Street on reports of “shots fired” in the area around 6:30 a.m., January 2018.

Upon arrival, they located Preonda Jones and Brianna Gould with apparent gunshot wound(s) inside the home where the shots were reported being heard.
Jones was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Brianna Gould was taken to a local hospital in serious condition, where she was downgraded to critical condition and later died.
She was pregnant at the time, the coroner said the baby was of viable age if born.

Deyante Stephens was arrested two days later on two counts of Murder.

During his trial, only two witnesses were called by the Stephens’ defense. It took a jury less than two hours to determine him guilty in the shootings, as well as a felony firearms charge.
