Hate crimes bill passes Senate without protected traits

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (ADAMS) – A hate crimes bill is passing out of the Indiana Statehouse. It was approved by the House on March 28th and passed the Senate yesterday in a 34 to 14 vote. Governor Eric Holcomb says he will sign the bill into law as soon as it hits his desk.

The measure includes color, creed, disability, national origin, race, religion and sexual orientation in a list of protected traits– it does not mention age, sex, or gender identity.
