ISP investigating police action shooting in Montgomery County

MONTGOMERY CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – The Indiana State Police at the Lafayette Post, requested by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department, are investigating a police action shooting involving the Montgomery County Multi-jurisdictional SWAT Team and a suspect who was being served with a felony warrant.

The incident occurred at a residence at 6142 East CR 1200 South near Ladoga, IN. At approximately 10:06 p.m. on April 3, 2019, the Multi-jurisdictional SWAT arrived at the address to execute the warrant. While attempting to serve the warrant, the suspect fired at the officers who returned fire injuring the suspect. As the scene was made secured, officers immediately rendered first aid and the suspect was transported by ambulance to Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis in serious condition. No officers were injured in the exchange of gunfire.

This is an ongoing investigation. Names of the officers involved or the suspect will not be released at this time. No further information will be released. After the investigation is concluded, the report will be turned over to the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office.

The investigation is being conducted by ISP detectives from the Lafayette Post, First Sergeant Jerry Holeman, Sergeant Steve Buckley, Trooper Detective Ben Rector, Trooper Detective Brock Russell, Senior Trooper Detective Josh Edwards, Crime Scene Investigator Sergeant Jim Cody, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department and the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office.
