FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne police say one man is dead after a shooting on the city’s southeast side Tuesday evening. Officials say that shortly before 7:00 pm Officers from the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a reported shooting at the intersection of Smith Street and Senate Avenue. Initial information given to officers was that there was a victim that had been shot lying in the street right by the intersection. They were also advised that they had heard possibly up to 6 gunshots being fired.
Upon officers arrival on the scene, they located an adult male victim lying in the street suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The subject was initially listed in critical condition and Paramedics a short time later pronounced the victim deceased still on scene.
Detectives began canvassing the area for any possible witnesses. Witnesses stated that they saw two subjects flee the area on foot as soon as they heard the gunshots. A K9 team was brought in to attempt a track. The K9 team tracked from the last location the subjects were seen at and the continued to track until a point where there was no viable odor for the K9 to track from.
Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Technicians were called to the scene and began to speak with any witnesses as well as process the scene for any possible evidence.
The Identity of the victim will be released at a later time by the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
This incident is being investigated by the Fort Wayne Police Department, Allen County Coroner’s Office, and the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office.
