FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Tuesday, Mayor Tom Henry was joined by Shambaugh & Son, L.P. and Fort Wayne UNITED to announce a unique collaboration that will advance the Fort Wayne UNITED mission, as well as provide higher wage employment opportunities.
The City says that due to continual growth in recent years, Shambaugh & Son, L.P. is in need of dependable individuals to fill fabrication and welding positions at their Fire Protection Fabrication Facility in Fort Wayne. Based on a recommendation from The Chapel, a committed member of the Fort Wayne UNITED Clergy Subcommittee, Shambaugh approached Fort Wayne UNITED to discuss partnering solutions to help fulfill Shambaugh’s employment needs and assist Fort Wayne UNITED’s mission by helping to provide opportunities through collaborative efforts. Succeeding several meetings between Mayor Henry’s administration and Shambaugh, Fort Wayne UNITED agreed to recruit Fort Wayne UNITED participants to fill up to 40 job openings at a starting wage of $14 per hour.
According to a press release, after hired employees satisfactorily complete a Fort Wayne UNITED four-month soft skills and workplace expectations class, taught by Fort Wayne UNITED’s Employment Subcommittee member and the City of Fort Wayne Human Resources Department, the employee’s hourly rate will increase to $15 per hour, with more opportunities for wage increases in the future.
“I’m encouraged by this new partnership that’s focused on job creation, relationship-building, and enhancing the quality of life in our community,” said Mayor Henry. “Fort Wayne UNITED and Shambaugh & Son are two respected organizations that are committed to making a positive and lasting difference. Providing livable wages through good employment opportunities positions our City as a leader in wanting individuals and families to be successful and grow.”
“We are honored to continue our 20+ year initiative within our organization by coming alongside both current and prospective employees and providing second chances,” stated Paul R. Meyers, Jr., P.E., CEO, Shambaugh & Son, L.P. “The fact that many of the applicants are TenPoint Coalition members and are committed to making Fort Wayne an even greater place to live is exciting to us and we’re ready to get to work!”
