New law requires externship for Indiana teachers

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (ADAMS) – One of Indiana’s new laws wants to get teachers to learn outside of the classroom. The new plan offers teachers an externship as a way to renew their teaching license. Teachers in Indiana need to recertify their license every five years.

State Senator Dennis Kruse says the idea is to get teachers out and into businesses, so they can give students more of a real-world view as to what they’ll need once they finish high school. Some teachers say they were taken off guard by the changes.
