Police: Bicyclist killed by drunk driver in Noble Co

NOBLE CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – Officials out of Noble County say one man is dead after being hit by an intoxicated motorist. At approximately 9:35 pm Tuesday, Noble County 911 Communications was made aware of a motor vehicle accident that occurred at 9679 West County Road 1200 North, Ligonier. Deputies from the Lagrange County Sheriff’s Department arrived at the scene and discovered that a gentleman riding a bicycle had been struck by a motor vehicle and his injuries were fatal.
A preliminary investigation conducted by the Noble County Sheriff’s Department indicates that a Tan 2017 Nissan Altima driven by Faron Yoder (24 yr. old) of Ligonier was eastbound on County Road 1200 North when the vehicle struck Richard Miller (23 yr. old) of Topeka, who was riding his bicycle. The Nissan then continued east on C.R. 1200 North a distance before leaving the roadway and hitting a utility pole head-on.
Richard Miller was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Nissan, Faron Yoder, was transported to Parkview Lagrange Hospital by EMS. Mr. Yoder did not suffer from any obvious injuries, however, was unresponsive due to his level of intoxication.
Mr. Yoder was later transported to the Noble County Jail. He currently faces a charge of Operating While Intoxicated Causing Death.

An Indiana State Police Crash Reconstructionist was called to the scene to assist with the investigation along with a Noble County Sheriff’s Department Drone Operator.
