WHITLEY CO, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Indiana Department of Transportation says that S.R. 5 is scheduled to be resurfaced on or after Monday, April 29, weather permitting. The resurface work will take place between the Eel River Bridge in the Town of South Whitley and just south of U.S. 30.
During the day, drivers are cautioned to watch lane restrictions and possible stopped traffic in the construction zone.
Work on this project also will include the upgrade of curb ramps in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Curb ramp upgrades will take place at several intersections between South Water Street and Pennsylvania Avenue in the Town of South Whitley. Construction of the new curb ramps may include widening a portion of the sidewalk; installing the ramps, and lowering the approach to align the ramps with the road. Pedestrian detours will be provided throughout the work.
INDOT reminds drivers to use caution and consider worker safety when driving through any active work zone.
The project is expected to be completed by late October, weather permitting. The contract was awarded to INDOT contactor E&B Paving for $2.5 million and includes the resurface of S.R. 9 in Whitley and Huntington counties.
