Suppression skyrockets for Indiana women with HIV

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (ADAMS) – Health officials say the suppression rates for women with HIV are skyrocketing. Dr. Laura Cheever, from the Health Resources and Services Administration, says advances in treatment options have made it possible for HIV patients to live a near-normal life without spreading the disease.

HRSA is reporting a record-high national suppression rate of 85.2-percent in women and girls receiving medical treatment through their Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program. In Indiana, the program serves about three-thousand people and suppression is up to 87-percent in both men and women. Dr. Cheever says the program funds essential support services to low-income people living with HIV, where the risk is higher.
