FREMONT, Ind. (ADAMS) – Authorities out of Steuben County say a 16-year-old girl was killed in a crash Monday night.
Just before 9:30, Steuben County Deputies responded to a single vehicle personal injury crash located on Vanguilder Road north of County Road 660 N.
Throughout the investigation it was discovered the driver, Megan-Sue Rose Johnson, age 16, of Camden, MI was southbound on VanGuilder Rd at a high rate of speed.
Police say Johnson lost control of her vehicle attempting to negotiate a curve in the roadway. Johnson’s vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree stump causing the vehicle to roll over.
Winter M. Bradley, age 16, of Camden, MI was a passenger in Johnson’s vehicle. Both Johnson and Bradley were wearing their seatbelts and the airbags deployed.
Johnson was transported by Samaritan helicopter to a nearby hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
According to the Steuben County Sheriff Office, her cause of death is from blunt force trauma.
Winter was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for a complaint of leg pain.
The investigation is still ongoing, however unsafe speed and use of illegal drugs are believed to be a factor.
