Two injured, passenger extricated from vehicle in I-65 crash

LAKE CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – A crash between a passenger car and semi sent two people to the hospital after the passenger had to be extricated.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper John Landowski revealed at approximately 8:27 p.m., Thursday, May 9th, 2019, evening, on I-65 southbound at the 256.1 mile marker (this is just north of 61st Avenue) a 2007 Buick, driven by Brigitte McGee, 60 of Crown Point, swerved from her lane of travel to avoid debris in the roadway. She lost control and struck the concrete median barrier wall.

This caused the Buick to travel southwest across I-65 and hit a 2007 Freightliner pulling a box trailer, driven by Gurprett Sembi, 38 of Glendale Heights, Illinois. The semi was owned by SMB Transportation out of Glendale Heights, Illinois.

Both vehicles after crashing came to rest in the roadway facing south. The Buick’s passenger, James McGee, 75 of Crown Point, had to be extricated from the vehicle by the Merrillville Fire Department. He and Brigitte were taken to North Lake Methodist Hospital in Gary with non-life threatening injuries. Sembi was not injured.
