DEKALB CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – The Indiana State Police in Fort Wayne is continuing to investigate after an early afternoon robbery of a CVS pharmacy in the DeKalb County city of Butler, which resulted in the arrest of two men within minutes of the robbery.
Preliminary investigation by Detective David Poe indicates at approximately 2:30 p.m. Friday, a man later identified as Nickolus G. Toepfer, 40 of Shipshewana, Indiana entered the CVS located at 529 West Main Street in Butler and made his way to the pharmacy. It is alleged that Toepfer displayed a note to the pharmacy employee indicating his intention to rob them of prescription medication.
The employee complied and Toepfer made off with an undisclosed amount of, and type of medications. No one inside of the CVS was injured. The Butler Police Department received the emergency call immediately after Toepfer fled on foot, and within five minutes of the robbery, and initial compilation of information, they made a traffic stop in the area of US 6 and County Road 63. Toepfer was a passenger in that vehicle.
As Toepfer was being taken into custody, it was learned he had ingested some of the medications. DeKalb County EMS was summoned and he was transported to DeKalb Health in Auburn, where he is being treated and is in custody. Toepfer is preliminarily being charged with Robbery, a Level 4 Felony.
The driver of the vehicle, Jason L. Sheppard, 40 of North Manchester, Indiana was taken into custody and is being held in the DeKalb County Jail on a preliminary charge of Aiding in a Robbery, a Level 4 Felony.
At this time, this case remains under investigation, and the DeKalb County Prosecutor’s Office will determine if any additional charges are warranted. Poe was assisted by the Butler Police Department, Waterloo Police Department, DeKalb County Sheriff Department, DeKalb County EMS and the DeKalb County Prosecutor’s Office.
