Two women hurt and their cars totaled in DeKalb Co crash


DEKALB CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – Two women were hurt after their cars collided Monday evening in DeKalb County. It happened just before 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of County Road 327 and County Road 11A in Garrett.

The Dekalb County Sheriff’s Department said 73-year-old Carolyn Smith of Fort Wayne was driving a Pontiac Torrent on County Road 11A. A witness said Smith stopped at the intersection and then pulled out onto northbound CR 327, striking a Jeep Liberty head-on. A witness reported that Smith’s car spun upon impact and came to rest near the intersection.

60-year-old Virginia Dickerhoof of Kendallville was driving the Jeep which hit several trees before coming to a stop off the road.

Both drivers complained of back and leg pains. They were taken to separate hospitals. Their cars were totaled.

The DeKalb County Sheriff was assisted by the Allen County Police Department, DeKalb County EMS, Noble County EMS, Parker’s Towing and Riverside Towing.
