Veterinary clinic provides ballistic vests for FWPD K9 officers

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Four K-9 officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department will receive new vests as part of a fundraising push by the Dupont Veterinary Clinic.

Local residents and employees of Dupont Veterinary Clinic, located at 11605 Coldwater Rd in Fort Wayne, Indiana, as well as people as far away as Florida, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin all made donations beginning on January 11th, 2019 and concluded on March 14th, 2019. The amount raised from the fundraiser totaled $ 4,016.69 and will provide new vests for Loki, Lobo, Rizzo and Iskra, all of the Fort Wayne Police Department.

ODMP.org reports that 28 K9’s were killed in the line of duty in 2018. The vests will be beneficial when K9 teams are performing high-risk searches and criminal apprehensions within the community and surrounding areas. The vests will be presented to each individual officer at Dupont Veterinary Clinic on Friday, April 26th at 1:30 pm.
